She watches them. One leads the other, determined to let nothing stand in his way. The other advances cautiously as if unable to believe the truth in the situation.
 
Glinting off a nearby building, the sun catches her eye, causing her to squint. She turns away.

Glancing back, she notes that they’re gone now, having continued on. She sighs, almost allowing herself to give into the nervous energy she’s been evading all morning. There is a knock. Her heart clenches, then her father’s friend is asking her the one question she doesn’t know the answer to.

“You ready?”
