Title: Future Considerations
Author: chatty_cat
Characters: Michael Scofield/Sara Tancredi
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Seasons 1-4
Genre: AU, non-epilogue compliant
Summary: “Is that where you see yourself five years from now...on the beach with Linc and LJ?”
Author's Note: This story is AU after the "I am happy" and "I love you's" on the beach in the finale. That means that Michael did not die and the nosebleed never occurred. It's the third story in The Gift of Time series. Once again I want to thank
eight8toes for being my co-conspirator with this fic, even though it took me way too long to write. I also want to say that I feel sort of bad for posting my own fic when I am so desperately behind on reading other people's *cough*all 4 last chapters of Seven, and
msgenevieve's new fic*cough*, but I will get there, I promise!

Ok, so maybe saga is a little strong of a term, but in many ways, that is what it feels like.
A little while back (I think it may have been when I asked how people put books on their bookcase *is a dork*), I mentioned that getting a bookcase was a whole other post. It appears that it is post time.
We have needed a new bookcase for awhile now. We have several shelves around the house and a bookcase in the basement, but everything is packed full. So full in fact that the bookcase has had a few unfortunate accidents over the past year. We need a new bookcase! The only place we have space for it is the living room, so ever since we got our furniture I have been looking for one. I had originally wanted a Billy one from Ikea, but when I saw that the medium brown was almost 1/3 more than the other colors, I wanted to look around some more. So we went to about 5 furniture stores here. Two of the five actually had one, and by one, I mean one! Ok, well Sears Homestore, had about 3 but, still... We actually liked the first one we found. It was similar to the Billy bookcase I had found, but it was real wood. The only thing was that it was quite expensive, and it appeared that it came in one of those gigantic boxes and since we know no one with a truck, it would cost another $50 or $60. Since the next few stores we looked at didn't even have bookcases, we decided to look at the Ikea one again. Even if it was more than the other colors (which annoyed me on principle alone), it was cheaper than the other one. So I go to the website to order it (because right now we don't have an Ikea here, but that is another story...don't ask lol), and the shipping came to more than the bookcase!
As you can imagine, we were not ok with this, so we decided to go shopping once again. This time we ended up at the Sears Homestore, where they did have a few to choose from. Again, we found one we liked, and it was cheaper than the other one we saw, but we weren't sure of a few things so we talked to one of the sales associates. One of the things I wanted to know was how much weight each shelf could hold. After saying he had no idea, the sales associate asked what we were planning on putting on it. After a moment, I answered. I'm kind of curious as to what he thought we may put on it. Anyway, one of the questions hubby asked was whether it was real wood or not since it was similarly priced to the other one we found at the other store that was. We were actually prepared to buy it at this point, but the guy laughed. Let's just say that that put an end to that buy.
So where did that leave us? Back at Ikea of course. I was going to see if I could get someone who lives in the US (because the bookcase which is still 1/3 more of the cost, is a lot cheaper there), to buy it and ship it to us which I know would be cheaper than getting it through the website here. I hadn't had a chance to consider my options since most of hubby's family live in states far from us before I talked to a friend of mine who gave me a great idea. Her dad is one of the main people in a custom broker company and they have a US address at the border. From there I just pay the fee for them to bring it over. I loved this idea! So yesterday I went to see what the exact shipping would be so that I can tell her dad and to order from the US site I have to have a US billing address! Where does that put us? Back at square one. We are in need of a bookcase and we have no bookcase. Who knew that getting something as common and simple as a bookcase would turn out to be this difficult?
Also, I want to wish all my American friends a Happy Independence Day, and a belated Canada Day to all my fellow Canadian friends! *g*

I am having one of those right now. The stupid thing is that I have no idea why! I have the day off, so I slept in a bit and caught up on some much needed sleep. Both of these things should make me happy but instead I am sitting here, lamenting the fact that it is 1:25pm and I have yet to put laundry on, or even have a shower. Instead of having the whole day ahead of me, I only have about half and I have accomplished nothing!
I think I am going to blame the weather (I do like to blame the weather after all). See we were having wonderful summer weather for 2 weeks. We went from cold and well below normal, to gorgeous summer temperatures, and it was great. However, this weekend we have been hit with a storm. It has poured for a good 48 hours straight! I spent half of the day yesterday convinced we were all going to float away (well not really, but still!). Doesn't Mother Nature know that we don't get rain in the summer? So when I saw sunshine this morning I wanted to go outside and drink our coffee on the patio, but when we got out there the wind was crazy! It's like we were in the middle of a hurricane! To top it off our patio chairs were still wet, so after about 2 minutes of sitting, I was quite soaked. It also didn't help that I realized that I messed up my grocery budget this month. I had spent the last 4 weeks shopping as if it were a 4 week month, not 5. I didn't think I could do a week of groceries on about $20 so I took my left over money from April and May and added it to what I had left for June....$60. I think I have a meal plan made that will fit into that budget, but I guess I will see for sure when I get to the grocery store (after I have a shower and put the laundry on that is).
Also....I feel very disconnected from the lj world. Strangely, this really affects my mood.
Sorry for the whining, feel free to skip.

It's kind of an odd question too. How do you organize your books on your shelf or in your bookcase?
We are getting a new bookcase (which is a whole post on its own), for the living room since we are completely out of space for books on our shelves. The problem is, I'm not sure how I want to organize the books once I get the case. I know for most of you, this probably isn't a problem. lol
Right now, I have a system where I keep books by the same author together but how they are on the shelf is by some random, and I mean random, categorization that I came up with. I don't think I want to do the same thing in the living room, so this brings me to my question. What do you do? Do you alphabetize by author, by title? Do you put them together in order of size, regardless of who they are by? Do you just randomly put them on the shelf? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Ever since I graduated high school (and I will not be mentioning how long ago that was), I've felt as if I haven't really had any hobbies. For a couple of years I was ok with that. I was starting university and planning a wedding, but when one of hubby's friends asked what kind of stuff I did and the only answer I could come up with was 'go to school', I began to feel like I was missing something. Not too long before that I could have listed off a plethora of activities, at that moment I basically had nothing. After much thought I added that I read, because that's true, it's just not much of an activity.
That was a couple of years ago now, and since then I have added a grand total of one hobby to my small list.....being on lj! lol Lately I have been wanting to do something new, add something else to my reading and being on lj. I was thinking of trying out yoga since I eventually want to do that with my classroom, but I was wondering what else I could do. What are my options? Whenever someone mentions something they do I always wonder why I have never tried that or even thought of it...but there is my problem, I cannot think of hobbies. So, dear flist, what do you do as a hobby? Or even if you are like me and spend your hobby time online, what are some ideas? I'm open to all. That's not saying I will try them though. lol

I normally do not have a problem putting a character aside and watching an actor in a new role. This morning however, hubby and I started watching Mental. We have recorded the episodes and with nothing to watch, we decided to put it on while drinking our coffee and eating cereal. So what do I think of it? I'm not sure, because I can't figure out why Whistler and Haywire are hanging out together in a hospital in LA. lol

I have an odd question. Does anyone know how to do DIY (do it yourself) art projects? As I mentioned, hubby and I are keeping our furniture so I am needing some new art for the living room and really have no desire to buy anything expensive. We are doing one piece as a photo as a painting, but I need two others. I was thinking of getting canvas and taping off sections, then painting squares and lines and such. Now that I'm thinking about it, I can see this quickly turning into a disaster. lol Has anyone done it or know of a way that may work? The colors I want to stick with are brown, blue, and cream/white. I don't mind adding a few others, but I want those to be the main ones. Also please feel free to point it out if you think I have gone completely nuts!
You may be wondering where I got this idea from. Jon and Kate Plus 8, yeah....I have issues. lol

I would wave it and have:
1) all my laundry washed, hung/dried, folded, and put away
2) my house dusted
3) dinner cook itself...oh and muffins. I would like muffins baked as well.
4) 12 hours added to my day (preferably without making it actually any longer)
5) the weather changed. Apparently Mother Nature is still confused on the month.
6) arrived in some tropical destination for a much needed vacation
That is all. Carry on. *g*
